Giany Guedjo, Executive Director of Carolina Human Reinvestment spoke to the club about the work the organization is doing to mentor students and feed the community through their after-school programs and community garden. Born in Benin, West Africa, Giany moved to the United States in 2009. Since 2012, he has led the CHRSC team as its Executive Director building community ties and teaching the next generation. With its mission of “Teach, Feed, Succeed,” the Carolina Human Reinvestment (SC) Community Garden started as an outdoor classroom for students during COVID. It has evolved into a much bigger and more meaningful project in our community. It has grown from a garden to a farm. Since they started in May of 2020, they have harvested and donated 12 tons of food in our community from their traditional raised bed garden and supplied more than 21,000 heads of lettuce from their signature hydroponic system. Their produce is donated to Food Pantries and Church Cafes throughout Georgetown County.
